Library Jubilee!

The fifth annual A Library Jubilee!  Let Loose in the Library! was a huge success, bringing in over $110,000 for Fairfax County Public Library!  More than 120 library lovers filled Burke Centre Library on October 5th to celebrate the library and all that it offers to Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax.  Guests included elected officials, business and community leaders, eight local authors, and members of the library Friends Groups, including our Signature Guardian Sponsor, the Friends of Burke Centre Library.

As the event started, guests enjoyed delicious hors d'oeuvres and cocktails from Special Occasions Catering, desserts from Swiss Bakery, and lively music from Lake Braddock Secondary School.  Local authors, including Alethea Kontis, Shari Randall, Donna Andrews, Ellen Crosby, Andy Jampoler, RADM Terry McKnight USN (Ret.), Barb Goffman, and Sherry Harris, offered book signings and photo opportunities for attendees. One More Page Books conducted the book sale throughout the evening.

The program quickly came into full swing as speakers, including Board of Directors Chair, Brian Engler; Jubilee co-chairs, Ilyse Gart and Pamela McCarthy; and Fairfax County Public Library director, Sam Clay, gave their opening remarks.  The Friends of Burke Centre Library president, Pat Riedinger, commented on the ways that a donation to the Foundation can help enhance the library and the lives of those in Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax as well as how the Friends of Burke Centre Library continue to help the library prosper.  Then the floor was opened for the live auction.

Quinn’s Auction Galleries called the live auction, and kept the attendees excited as they bid on sports tickets and vacation packages, including a six day Photo Safari vacation to South Africa.  Following the live auction, the program was wrapped up with a Changing Lives Through Literature testimonial from Dr. Mark Hopson, an affiliate professor at George Mason University and a Changing Lives Through Literature program facilitator.  Guests enjoyed dessert and continued to bid in the silent auction.

Thank you to all of our sponsors and attendees for making this event successful!  We hope to see you again at next year’s Jubilee!
