Endowing your Library for years to come
The
Fairfax Library Foundation celebrated the achievement of
the $3 million fundraising goal of the New Century Library Fund (NCLF).
The Fund was launched to help ensure that the library system meets new
and diverse demands throughout the 21st century. Al Dwoskin (pictured
center with board directors) and his wife Claire were recognized for
serving as co-chairs of the NCLF campaign, of which Dwoskin and Associates
is a major contributor.
The
Library Foundation’s past Chair, Alice Starr, was honored by the
2004-2006 Chair, Janet Kerr Tener (pictured) for serving as a catalyst
for this remarkable fundraising effort. Elected officials and donors
joined the Library Foundation’s Board of Directors and Advisory
Board members, as well as members of the Fairfax County Public Library’s
Board of Trustees, at this event generously sponsored by Guest Services,
Inc.
Although
the NCLF campaign has ceased by that name, the Library Foundation will
continue to raise funds to grow the endowment. Once fully funded, interest
will support the four most critical needs of Fairfax County Public Library,
including books and materials to meet the growing demands of our diverse
community; community programs ranging from literacy outreach to presentations
by renowned authors; virtual library equipment and software demanded
by tech-savvy readers; and the Foundation’s Friends Scholarship
Fund, which supports educational opportunities for library staff, volunteers
and students in pursuit of a Masters in Library Science degree to address
the impending shortage of qualified librarians.
