Frequently Asked Questions

The Fairfax Library Foundation’s Scholarship Program was established to enhance the capability of the Fairfax County Public Library (FCPL) staff and volunteers to deliver high quality public service. Twice a year the Scholarship Committee awards several full or partial scholarships up to $1,000 to support the continuing education of all FCPL employees and volunteers.

All FCPL employees and volunteers are eligible to apply for scholarships.  Scholarships are awarded either for advance funding or reimbursement for registration costs, and travel-related expenses to attend seminars, conferences, lectures, workshops, adult education classes, or college and university classes when not enrolled in a formal degree program.  Applicants may receive only one such scholarship a year, but may be considered for additional scholarships in future years.

Scholarships are awarded either for advance funding or reimbursement for registration and/or travel related expenses to attend such continuing education events as seminars, conferences, lectures, workshops, adult education classes, or college and university classes when not enrolled in a formal degree program. Attendance at such events must benefit the FCPL in a demonstrable fashion.

Applications must be submitted by either the June 15 or December 15 deadline. The June 15 deadline covers future events from July of the current year through June of the next year or reimbursement for events, which occurred within the previous year (July through June). The December 15 deadline covers future events from January through December of the next year or reimbursement for events, which occurred January through December of this calendar year. The application must be postmarked or received by either the June 15 or December 15 closing date by the Foundation Scholarship committee at the address below.

Scholarships are awarded on a merit basis without regard to race, gender, religion, age, physical disability, or sexual orientation. The Scholarship Committee considers the merit of each application carefully. Factors evaluated will include:

'' Stated value of the scholarship event to the organization and the individual,
'' Individual’s stated commitment to the FCPL, and
'' Individual’s length of service with FCPL.

Each applicant will be notified of the Scholarship Committee’s decision within four (4) weeks of the closing date. Funds will be disbursed directly to the recipient. Applicants may receive only one (1) such scholarship a year, but may be considered for additional scholarships in future years.
