Call for Artists to participate in ‘Art in the Pages’
Fairfax, VA –The Fairfax Library Foundation announces a call for artists for Art in the Pages, the first truly all-Fairfax County public art sculpture project. This effort is similar to the popular Party Animals (donkey & elephant sculptures) and Pandamania projects in Washington D.C. that delighted the entire community. Large, open book statues, approximately four feet high, will showcase the work of local artists while on display in Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax in spring 2008 throughout the summer.
Local artists are invited to submit a design for participation in Art in the Pages by artistically designing templates of the open book statue no later than January 18, 2008. This is a unique opportunity to showcase creativity and talent in a highly visible project. Artists will receive a stipend of $1,500.00 for each approved design that is selected by a sponsor. The artist name and the name of the statue will go on a plaque that will be located on the base of each statue. Artists may choose to work in a paint-in location or their own studio workspace.
Promotion of this public art initiative will take place in many ways, including the artist paint-in, the VIP sponsorship reception and final auction event; recognition in Art in the Pages press releases and promotional materials, including the popular Map and Guide; plaques on each statue, the Library Foundation website, and much more.
After months on display throughout the summer of 2008, sponsors at the $10,000 Publisher level will have the option to keep the open book statue. Statues that are not retained by the sponsor will be donated to a library branch or other location or auctioned with proceeds benefiting the Fairfax County Public Library system through the Fairfax Library Foundation.

Questions may be directed to the Library Foundation via or by telephone at in advance of the January 18, 2008 deadline.
