Fairfax Library Foundation Announces 10 Scholarship Winners
Fairfax,
VA –The
Fairfax Library Foundation proudly announces the 2007 Friends Scholarship
Fund awardees. Four merit-based academic scholarships were awarded
to outstanding students pursuing a Masters degree in Library Science. Another
six individuals were awarded continuing education scholarships. The
Friends Scholarship Fund was established to deliver expert library services
to County residents by attracting highly qualified future librarians
to the Fairfax County Public Library.
Four Master of Library Science students, who study at the Catholic University of America, have been awarded $8,000 in academic scholarships. Congratulations to Mona Heath, Instruction/Liaison Program Assistant at George Mason University; Suzanne S. Summers, Library Information Assistant, Children’s Services at the Woodrow Wilson Library; and Lynette Terpak, Assistant Circulation Manager at the Dolley Madison Library. Mary F. Fox, Circulation Aide at the Chantilly Regional Library was recognized with the Edwin S. Clay, III Scholarship, in honor of more than 25 years of service by the Fairfax County Public Library Director.
“Recruiting a new generation of dedicated and knowledgeable librarians
is vital to ensuring that our library system continues to meet the growing and
diverse needs of our community.” says Library Director Edwin S. Clay, III.
To maximize current staffing, the Friends Scholarship Fund also encourages
continuing education among Fairfax County Public Library staff and volunteers
by awarding scholarships that support education outside of a formal degree
program.
Continuing education awardees include Elizabeth M. Meanor, Library Aide at the Reston Regional Library; Svetlana Monachova, Page at the Kingstowne Library; Shannon Seglin, Young Adult Specialist at the Chantilly Regional Library; Neha Shirgaonkar, Fairfax County Library Administration Internet Services Department; Arlene Sternlieb, Information Services Manager at the Sherwood Regional Library; and Delia Ullberg, Librarian I at the Pohick Regional Library.
